It's hard to believe that this sweet little pappoose is already nine years old. Along with her love of horses, is a love for all things Native American. She chose an Indian theme for her birthday party this year.
The first request to fulfill was an Indian themed chocolate birthday cake. Unfortunately, momma had a little run in with a bottle of wood glue, a dried shut lid and a kitchen knife the day before, which resulted in a chopped up finger, and a severed artery. Several stitches and a tetanus shot later, I'm gonna be fine, but it did somewhat hamper my cake decorating skills.
Kammy made and decorated the teepee herself and was thrilled with her cake, so that's what matters.
We didn't have the kind of plates Indians eat off of, so we used disposable pie tins. Since she was having chocolate cake, she also requested powder donuts for her brother who can't have chocolate. We designed dowel arrows to hold the donuts and strawberries (her favorite fruit.)
Her presents were easy to wrap. I just added some yarn and feathers to plain brown paper.
One of her dreams has been to have a teepee. It's seemed just that, a dream. They do sell some pretty neat ones, but the prices are just ridiculous. Enter Lowes. PVC pipes and a large paint drop cloth. Momma did the sewing, gluing and decorating, but could never have pulled the project off completely without daddy who used flexible irrigation pipe to form a circular base to connect it all to. It is semi collapsible, which makes it nice for storage.
We kept it a suprise and then just before she opened presents, we sent her to hide her eyes saying that we'd forgotten to wrap one of her gifts. She and her sisters (especially Kaite) have already gotten our money's worth out of playing with it! It may take a few more hours play time to get our efforts worth from this project. :)
Her gift from Poppa and Gramma Germain was a bow and arrows set. She's already perfected her aim!
Lastly, was craft time. They made paper plate dream catchers.
Daddy asked Kammy to pray over our lunch just before her party began and she was careful to thank God for all her blessings, especially her family, who in her words made her life and birthday so special. Keep in mind, this was before the teepee, the cake or the presents. I rejoice to see her grateful spirit. She was just as thankful upon receiving a notebook (needed for school) as her teepee, bow or her moccisan kit.
Once again, mommy and daddy are reminded of how blessed they are and the trust God has placed in us to raise this little "quiver-full" on "target" for eternity.

Those last words brought tears to my eyes, just from the preciousness of it (and maybe a little because my papoose caring is over.) Another delightful party. I have a nephew who is a missionary to the American Indians. Love how she wanted to be sure her brother had a special dessert, too.
