Valentines Day the Bork way

Sunday dinner dessert was this yummy and beautiful looking strawberry cake trifle. It was meant to be strawberry cake, but we made a mess of it so it turned into trifle. Kalli waxed eloquent about how we have these big plans for the "cakes of our life" and we think we know what they are supposed to look like in the end, but in our foolish haste, we make a mess of thing and we despair. Then God comes along and breaks up the pieces even more. We see no hope and think our cake is doomed for the trash pile but then God begins to artfully put us back together and in the end his version is quite lovely to behold!

Valentines Day dawned a lovely white color with big fluffy snowflakes floating down. It didn't accumulate or last long enough to make travel difficult, but it was pretty while it lasted.

We long ago quit fighting the crowds for dinner out and started a fun tradition of a quiet dinner at home with the family.

We had yummy rib-eye steaks, homemade scalloped potatoes and caesar salad.

On the side was my copycat version of Outback's brown bread. It was a win--even with the little man who can be quite discriminating about his bread.

To finish things off were red velvet cupcakes with chocolate cream cheese icing. The kids had fun decorating them after their school valentine party.

They thought it was great fun packing sack lunches for their noon-time school party.

Everything was heart-shaped, even the sandwiches!

My students each colored a valentine picture for the bulletin board and the little ones did a foam airplane craft.

I surprised them with painting kits from the $ Store.

Mini spent her day snuggling on her bed at the back door with her sock monkey.

These two played together for hours, which is pretty much the daily norm for them. I overheard Kaderick say, "You know....we have a lot in common afterall."

Mommy and Daddy getting ready to go on their evening walk. We walk together every night....you know....healthy habits for an old couple. Smile.
We didn't really do gifts this year. We have a few projects that we are working on around the house. New cement, fence, front entrance make-over kind of stuff and we bought a new bed mattress a few weeks ago (ooh, laa, laa....). Rick did send me a Donald Trump valentine saying "I want you on my side of the wall." LOL
23 Valentines Days ago, we were just starting out. Seems like a lifetime and seems like yesterday. We were so very young, but I'd say yes all over again. I love to make him laugh, hear him pray and preach, feel his arms, see him with our children, and witness his love for both family and friends. He is hardworking, talented, and so giving of his time and efforts. I love him. I believe in him. I cherish us. He has my heart.

We've also been busy with some projects out in Greenleaf at my parents house. We've redone the bathroom and painted all the main areas along with adding this chair rail feature in the dining room. We're all excited about the flooring project supposed to happen this weekend.

While I'm here, I have to add a kid funny or two.
The other night a sleepy Kaderick told his daddy, "I need mommy. She's the comfiest thing in the world!"

Kade accidentally kind of “inhaled” one of his Cheerios. He came to me and said. “I have a problem. One of my Cheerios jumped into my tummy before I got a chance to chew it.”

I was away from home late one night and when I got back Kaderick said, "We missed you at HQ!"
