My Mom Cave!

Well, isn't the "Mom Cave" where mom spends the most of her time? I mean her quality time? Actually, I don't mind laundry, as far as chores go. In fact, some of my best alone time is spent here. :) This room was particularly ugly though. For one, the electrical panel on the wall was an ugly gray color and all rusted out. A nice coat of white spray paint took care of that. Behind the washer and dryer is an ugly mass of cords and pipes, so I sewed up a little gingam curtain to hide the mess and then I convinced hubby to hang a rod of pvc pipe for it to hang on. I also invested in a cute rug and curtains. They are from Lakeside. I have been very pleased with their prices and quality.

Bits of Christmas...

are beginning to show up here and there throughout the house.I meant to buy a new tree skirt on clearance after Christmas last year and I forgot. So...when it came time to put a treeskirt around the tree, I found some scraps of burlap and gingham and stitched one up real quick.
We added some pinecones and snowflakes to the snowballs we made.

I'm loving the simplicity and beauty of it all.
Oh! And the coziness!

The shadowbox received a Christmas-y look as well.
A few holiday wreaths now grace the french doors.
Some snow crept into the china cabinet.
I'm not completely done, but that's all for now...the laundry is calling. Christmas music from Pandora and a warm fire make housekeeping a delight today!

Winter Blessings

Thinking this morning that my blessings are about as inmumerable as the snowflakes--only around here, you really can just about count the snowflakes. :) We were so excited about the 8 inches we were supposed to have for Thanksgiving day. Kalli said it best when she woke up and looked out the window to a bare yard, "The weatherman sure has a weird imagination!" Some of my winter blessings include my incredibly sweet family. Hubby made me a nice warm fire this morning before he left for a day at work. He's a keeper! Not just because he builds nice fires, either. My sweet girls will be helping me with laundry and Thanksgiving baking today. It is so much fun having girls to do things with! Last night we made snowballs using styrofoam balls, glue and sparkly fake snow.
Of all my winter blessings the very best is the gift of Jesus. He's the real reason why this whole season is such a joy to celebrate! Friday, while some of you brave the Black Friday shopping crowds, I will be keeping our tradition of decorating for Christmas. That is if I can actually FIND them! Our garage is the one spot that still lacks a LOT in the area of organization! I plan to take it a little easy with the decor this year since I have just about had my fill of unpacking and decorating here lately.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Nesting~ The Kitchen

Welcome to my little country kitchen. I had to work pretty hard at blending the blue and white from my dining room with the chickens in my kitchen.
Rick installed some under the cabinet lights lights and they look so pretty at night.
I lost my plant shelves, but found room for all my stuff anyway.
The view out my kitchen is so beautiful! Beyond the back yard is pasture and beyond that a creek lined with willow trees.

Nesting~ Living Room

Welcome to my living room! This has honestly been one of the busiest weeks of my life! We have had a marathon clean-up move-in week! I am so thankful for all the good help I had! I have decided to break up the pictures into rooms...one a day (or week) depending on time.
Here is my living room. The big 'frame' above the couch is actually a window but, the kitchen is on the other side and I wanted (for the sake of room in the dining area) to put my hutch there. Nobody wants to look at the ugly back-side of a hutch, so hubby helped me build a burlap covered board to hang things on and we stuck it in window frame. I LOVE the way it tured out! Sorry about the picture quality and all the shadows. I should learn not to take pictures at night. The window in this outside wall is HUGE (94 inches) and as you might know, window coverings are not cheap. I already had the valances and didn't want to spend money on pull drapes or something like that--not to mention that I hate pull drapes. So....what we did was get an outdoor patio type bamboo shade (which just happened to be 1/4 inch too long) on sale for $30-something at Lowe's. I cut each piece 1/8 inch of bamboo individually off each side with a wire cutter. A ton of work, but I LOVE the finished product! A few other not so fun things that had to be done, were washing floors, walls, ceiling, and light fixtures and then doing it all again because I don't think they EVER did it. I also blacked the pellet stove, shined the chrome, and cleaned the glass. I was pleased to discover that there really is a window in it. You honestly couldn't tell for sure before--all the soot and grime that was on it.
It's really quite roomy and yet very cozy in here--especially when the snow is falling softly outdoors and the fire is crackling indoors and I'm sitting here sipping my coffee.
