I'd call it nesting, but then you'd think I was getting ready for a new little chick. Which I am not. I think for me, nesting is a seasonal thing. I tend to "nest" most in the spring and fall. With the girls back in school, and the potty training done (Yes, I did have to rub that in again) I am finding there is a little less fun family time. I'm busier in some ways, yes... but there are less outings and maybe less mess, as my chicks are busy studying.
Anyway...this is an idea I saw a long time ago at Pottery Barn and I knew I wanted to do it, but at the time, I didn't have a spot for a pillow like this. Now, I have a sitting room off my very country dining room and it's perfect! I simply grabbed an old pillow at the thrift store, brought it home and promptly sterilized it. Then I made it a burlap cover and used a permanent marker to freehand on the letters. The plaid bow is an extra and matched the ruffles I made for my new window shades.
When we first moved in here, I couldn't find bedroom curtains, so I bought a sheet set and made them. I still had leftovers, so I recently made an extra pillow case to go with the ONE that came with the set.
I also made the burlap pillow you see below. Same method as the "Nest" one, only on this one I added a fabric rosette. It's made from fabric leftover from our wedding 14+years ago!
Then...I found an old shutter at a Yard Sale primed it white, painted it blue, distressed it and placed it in a bare corner of our HUGE master bedroom. This spot needed something in a bad way, but I did not want to spend a lot of many on something when we may not always live in such a large house. This was a great solution~especially when I paired it with the sign I just made. So easy, that one. Glue letters on canvas. Spray paint desired color.

Spray paint desired color. The BIG project is one that is for hubbies only.....mine is making me a "Boot Roost." There is a spot by the back door that breeds shoes badly and I wanted something cute and country so I suggested a pallet shoe rack and he went to work. That was a week ago, or maybe two. He is still at work. Sigh....patience never was a virtue of mine. In his defense though....he's been at work a lot (the other work, ya know....)
Anyway, I took some of the leftovers from the pallets and tried my hand at primitive sign making.
This one actually looks better in real life. It was hard to get good pictures. And I LOVE the one below. I free handed them, because I thought it would lend to the "old" look, but now I'm thinking I should have used stencils.
This one is above the french doors in the dining room and here is where you get to see the ruffles I added to my new shades. These windows were naked before and with the fall weather and lack of daylight, I was ready for this! I'll try to get a better picture when I post the Boot Roost since it will be right nearby the door.
This one I am almost embarrassed to post. It's a hair accessory board we made for the girls bathroom. With 4 girls, storage does become an issue and tossing in a drawer or tote only rumples them. It's actually sort of cure though and hidden away in an obscure place. I love that we can choose things quickly--at a glance.
Lastly, I did this little jello craft with Kammy for the 'S' sound she was studying. "Sandy the sunfish swam in the sea, on Sunday she had all her friends in for tea!" This is Sandy and a few of her friends and the best part is, it's all edible!
