Lost Valley Reservoir May/June 2019
The saying goes, "Not all who Wander are Lost."
Last week, we wandered up the hill a little ways to "Lost Lake."
We found the sweetest little campsite just next to the lake. There just might not be anything better than a campfire by the lake.
The weather was spectacular! We had some crazy thunder, rain during the night, gorgeous skies, and plenty of sunshine!
The fishing was great, if you like perch....
Kaite and Kaderick each caught lots of little fish and Kalli multitasked by reading while she waited for the fish to bite.
The sunset colors were amazing, showing off for us a little more each of the three nights we were out.
Kayla and I both celebrated our birthdays while camping. 62 years all together, with 21 belonging to her and 41 to me. Kalli made us an amazing birthday cake!
Morning mists on the lake were just about as beautiful as the evening sunsets.
We even took our birthday gifts along to open there. My wind chimes from Kalli found a place to hang and be enjoyed with the lake as a back-drop.
I don't know when I've seen it so green! The spring rains this year almost had it looking like a tropical forest. The lake actually rose while we were there from snow melting off the surrounding mountain peaks as the hills gear up from summer. Snow could still be seen on the mountains and even in spots under the shade of the trees.
Birthday dinner consisted of grilled burgers that Rick made and baked beans and potato salad the girls and I did.
We happily brought along the paparazzi. He stayed busy giving four-wheeler rides to the littles, baiting hooks and untangling lines and driving Rick into town to have axel seals replaced on the Yukon. The brakes started smoking which isn't something you want, especially when pulling a trailer. We were thankful to find a good mechanic in a nearby small town who found that it wasn't the brakes at all, but the seals dripping oil onto them. While it's never fun to have mechanical problems, this was the best possible scenario and was quickly fixed!
We're looking rather dark here, but after a few days camping out in the "rough' this is probably the most gentle on your eyes. Smile.
We did have the trailer, so we were quite snug. Papa was the one who really roughed it in a tent!
It might not seem like it, but I'm really only sharing a very small number of pictures. Photography is art, and I really love shooting scenery and people alike!
We enjoyed so much amazing camp food! I love cooking outdoors.
Best kitchen ever!
Kaderick helping papa split wood for the fire. He's holding "Twiggy" a stuffed cheeta that "Bear" the owner of the small supplies store at on the corner where we turned up the mountain gifted him. Kaite also got a stuffed animal from him.
Kaite actually far out-fished Kaderick. She can sit still and fish for hours. Kaderick not so much.
Bike riding was another greatly enjoyed activity. As was riding in the back of Papa's truck on bumpy mountain roads. That may have just been the best part of the entire trip for the littles!
The pose here was 100% Kaderick's idea.
We kept thinking of Grandma of course. There were literally millions of yellow flowers to remind us of her. She would have been so excited to watch the kids catch fish, hear their laughter as they bounced along in the back of the truck and she'd have been absolutely THRILLED to see that Kaite never got sick one single time on the way up or down! In fact. we kinda wondered if she had something to do with that. Kaite thought perhaps she was sitting up there with Jesus begging him to keep Kaite well and who's to say she wasn't???
Camp coffee is another pretty amazing "perk" of camping out.
We didn't get pictures of all the wildlife, but we enjoyed seeing ducks, geese, deer, chipmunks, beaver, and too many birds to name.
We're so thankful for this time together! Family is such an amazing treasure. We trust the children will always be so close and we love having papa join us when he can.
For getting "lost" it was AMAZING!
